A Guide to Fixing Hot Spots in Your Home
Hot spots can appear in certain areas of your home and can be an annoying phenomenon. However, you don’t have to put up with these warm areas. If you can isolate the cause, a fix can be applied so that your home’s temperature is even throughout.

At Summit Heating & A/C, our NATE-certified technicians are here to advise Kansas City, MO homeowners on the proper way to deal with their home’s hot spot.

Here are four things you can do to eliminate hot spots in your home.
  • Find Out if the Hot Spot Is Due to the Sun
The first thing you want to check for is if the hot spot is the result of the particular area of your house receiving too much exposure to the sun. Replace your curtains or drapes with ones made of a material more effective in keeping the heat out. If it turns out that sunlight is the culprit, you will find that your home’s temperature can drop a few degrees and the hot spot will disappear.
  • Install a Zoned Thermostat
Installing a zoned thermostat will give you the option of appointing different levels of temperature to different areas of your home. If there is a particular room that tends to exhibit hot spots, you can adjust the temperature in that zone to a lower setting.
  • Unclog or Reroute Ducts
A common cause of hot spots is clogged ducts. Head over to the area of your house with the hot spot and see if cool air is entering the room. If your AC is on but there is no airflow to that area, you may need to have your ducts checked.
  • Install a Ductless Air Conditioner
Garages, pantries, and attics are top candidates for hot spots. Without needing to install or reroute ducts, you can put a ductless air conditioner in place to even out the temperature in the specific area of your house.
