In this guide, we’re going to show you seven easy steps to replacing your furnace filter fast. Let’s begin with step number one:
- Turn Off Your Furnace
This step is very simple. Turn your thermostat off. If you really want to be safe, you can go ahead and disconnect power from your furnace at this time, too. - Locate the Filter on Your Furnace
The next step is to locate your furnace’s filter. The first way you can do this would be to examine your furnace’s instructions manual carefully. If you don’t have access to the manual, or that doesn’t help, try removing the cover on your furnace. It’s located usually on the front or side of your furnace, and you open it simply by pulling up. When you do that, just be on the lookout for the blower compartment, and you will see your filter right there.
If you have trouble with this, no problem. We have serviced a lot of furnaces all over Denver. Contact us at Summit Heating, A/C, Plumbing & Electrical, and we will be happy to help you!
- Does Your Filter Need to Be Changed?
If your furnace filter has a plastic frame, it does not actually need to be changed. You can just take it out and rinse it off in your sink or tub. - What Size is Your Furnace Filter?
Look at the outside of your old filter, and you should see the size of your furnace filter listed there. If you don’t, just take a tape measure and measure it. You’ll want to replace the filter with one that’s the exact same size. - Discard the Old Furnace Filter
Now, remove your old furnace filter. However, when you remove it, look carefully at the filter’s frame so you can see the airflow arrow. You want to take note of this because when you install your new filter, you want the airflow arrow to point in the same direction. - Install the New Furnace Filter
Next, install your new furnace filter, being sure to make sure the airflow arrow is pointing in the same direction as on your old filter when you removed it. - Success! Turn Your Furnace “On” and You’re Done.
Finally, turn your furnace on, and your job is complete.
